About Me

Bruce McClure, SABR Membership Ambassador and Chair of the Northern New England Chapter, is bringing the baseball and SABR community together through an online presence that provides information, history and friendship…with a little frivolity thrown in for good measure.

Starting out in professional hockey in the mid-1980’s, Bruce worked in the front offices of the Hartford Whalers (NHL) and Springfield Indians (AHL) as an Administrative Assistant, traveling extensively with both teams and working as public address announcer during home games. An experience like no other, Bruce garnered a long list of skills that have benefited him throughout his career.

Bruce also worked in the front office of the New Britain Rock Cats (AA-EL) as an Administrative Assistant, Guest Relations Manager and . Working with ticketing, marketing and directly with fans, Bruce helped to shape the Rock Cats experience for over a decade, wrote curriculum and handouts for the wildly popular Baseball in Education program, successfully developing a loyal and vociferous fan base in central CT via in season and off-season marketing opportunities…even performing as the team’s mascot, Rocky, at the 2007 and 2013 Eastern League All Star Games.

While working with the Rock Cats, Bruce obtained both a B.S.Ed. in elementary education and a M.SpEd. in special education, eventually transitioning to teaching in public schools in southern New England prior to moving forward to a career in interior decoration and high-end furniture showroom management. His experience in that realm led him to rise to an executive leadership position with Macy’s, Inc., managing Macy’s Herald Square location as well as Bloomingdale’s at 59th and Lexington. He also led the staff that redesigned the Fulton Street (Brooklyn) Macy’s location.

I was there!

A baseball fan since 1974, Bruce has abandoned living and dying by one single team but retains a rooting interest in the Baltimore Orioles. Introduced to the game by his father, he was brought up on Red Sox baseball before expanding his horizons over the course of decades of watching the game. Bruce attended his first game on September 15, 1975 (where Hank Aaron hit his 745th HR off Bill Lee) and was sitting on the first base line for game 6 of the 1975 World Series (with his dear old dad, of course). Over the years, he has attended organized, independent and collegiate league baseball games in more than 2 dozen states and one Canadian province.
